

Dr. Hizri Bin Hasshan

Dr. Hizri bin Hasshan is a distinguished legal professional with a PhD in Islamic Finance Dispute Resolution and both Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Master of Laws degrees from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). His academic excellence has earned him prestigious awards, including the “Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Yusof Gold Medal” and the “Wadah Niaga Award” for outstanding achievements during his undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
Hizri’s legal career began in 2006 when he commenced his pupillage at Messrs Mohamed Ismail & Co, under the guidance of the late Adjunct Professor Dato’ Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Shariff. After being called to the Malaysian Bar in May 2007, he embarked on his professional journey as an Associate at Messrs Che Mokhtar & Ling, where he rose to the position of Senior Associate by 2012. In April 2015, Hizri co-founded Messrs Akram Hizri & Azad, which later evolved into Akram Hizri Azad & Azmir.
With his extensive experience in commercial dispute resolution, Hizri has successfully represented a wide range of clients, including banks, financial institutions, corporations, GLCs, statutory bodies, and individuals. His expertise spans diverse areas such as Islamic finance litigation, land disputes, negligence claims, shareholders’ disputes, and bankruptcy matters. Hizri has also represented clients in all tiers of the Malaysian courts, including acting as counsel for other law firms.
In addition to his litigation practice, Hizri is well-versed in corporate law. He has played a pivotal role in drafting joint venture agreements, development agreements, and shareholders’ agreements related to real estate development projects and the incorporation of special purpose vehicles (SPVs). Furthermore, he is frequently appointed as a consultant in regulatory impact analysis (RIA), where he conducts studies and proposes legislative amendments to enhance relevant laws.
Beyond his legal practice, Hizri is deeply passionate about legal education. He serves as a part-time law lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, where he teaches final-year subjects such as civil advocacy, administration of estates, and insolvency practice. He also conducts training sessions and workshops for the Bar Council and State Bar Committees, specializing in Islamic finance litigation. Hizri is a valued member of the Islamic Finance Committee (IFC) within the Bar Council, contributing his expertise to the advancement of Islamic finance law in Malaysia.
